I consider this a very important article, potentially more important than any other I have written. I say this because of the immediacy and potentially extreme nature of what is outlined below. I’ve been keeping an eye on news and information pertaining to the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan, since the first of many earthquakes hit there back in March. Please read this information and conduct your own research to confirm (or otherwise) what you’ve read here for yourself. Below you’ll find many perspectives on the seriousness of the situation, potential long term issues, and more. In another article (coming shortly) I will go over ways in which you can minimise your exposure to radiation from this (and any future) nuclear disaster.

I am going to provide many links to information on Fukushima which I think are important we all pay attention to. Many links are long and convoluted, so I provide them here in a shortened form for convenience, using bit.ly or j.mp.

Work in progress, and updates

I will be updating this page as more data comes to my attention. To get the latest links by Twitter just FollowMe on Twitter. You can also Friend me on Facebook. Either way, you’ll get most of the updates I add to this page over the coming, days, weeks, and perhaps months.

There is a date and icon [pen___paper.png] in front of new links and information shared in this article to make it easier to see what is new. You can then use your browser to Find the date that is of interest to you (use CTRL-F in your browser to pull up the Find system). Below is the history of dates changes have been made, and the sections where the changes occur:

Dumping of radio active water into the Pacific Ocean [pen___paper.png28/4]

[pen___paper.png28/4] Japan dumped over 3 million gallons (11.34 million litres) into the Pacific Ocean in order to make space in holding tanks for more water that was going to be more radioactive. The figures given for the amount of water vary, as do those that measure it in weight. But it was something link 11,500 tons of radioactive water. Government officials (in Japan) assured the public it would be quickly diluted by the sea and “the dump should not affect the safety of seafood in the area.” I think there is far more in the ocean to consider than simply that which we refer to as “sea-food”.

Mankind has quite a history of dumping radioactive waste at sea. Just what the effects of this, and the water dumped (and leaking) from Japan is not well understood. Here is some info on the history of dumping since the 1946.

I have read that the radiation from Japan has reached Chinese fishing grounds, although I am still trying to confirm this. All official sources of information (mainstream media, for instance) are reporting that the Chinese fishing is safe from radiation from Japan.

Other Radiation Sources and Incidents [pen___paper.png28/4] [pen___paper.png29/4]

Radioactivity from Japan is serious cause for concern, yet I think we must also remain aware that there are many other sources of human created radiation affecting the world (and all life on Earth, including us). I recall seeing on the news in the late 1990’s that a submarine was used by the USA government to check in on the many tanks of radioactive waste they’d been dumping off of the coast of California. Back then it was reported that up to 80% of them were leaking. That was about 15 years ago! Apparently an estimated 47,500 55-gallon drums of radioactive waste were dumped around the Farallon Islands (off the coast of San Francisco) between 1946 to 1970. I understand there are over 50 such sites along the East and West coasts of America.

[pen___paper.png28/4] Here is an article on the ryse.ran.org web site with some useful information on the dumping of radioactive waste into oceans. Here is another excellent article which was on the www.law.berkeley.edu web site with plenty of information (and lots of references) on the subject of nuclear waste being dumped at sea. Since mid 2011 it’s not been online, so I have reposted it here on my site, and updated the link. Nuclear testing has also been a major source of radioactivity in the oceans, as outlined here on the www.law.berkeley.edu site (site gone since mid 2011, so link goes to an archived copy).

[pen___paper.png29/4]  This webpage provides a comprehensive list of radioactive / nuclear based accidents throughout history. It is very extensive, and it’s likely you’ve not heard about the majority of these incidents. Little by little every incident like these is potentially increasing the radioactive loading in our environment for many hundreds, even thousands, or year to come.

Iodine vs. Cesium

[pen___paper.png15/4] I, and many other researchers, and noticed that the mainstream and government feed media is mostly referring to iodine-131 when looking at issues of radiation fallout. Iodine-131 has a half-life of 8 days (meaning that every 8 days it reduces by 50%). Cesium-137 has a half-life of 30 years. This means that in 60 years 25% of the cesium-137 released from the reactor will still be active in the environment. After 90 years it’ll still be 12.5% active. Basically it’ll take a couple of centuries for it to be completely deteriorated.

[pen___paper.png15/4] Here is an article on Naturalnews.com that explores this topic in details:

The cesium deception: Why the mainstream media is mostly reporting iodine levels, not radioactive cesium

Fallout Warning in Europe

[pen___paper.png15/4] The EU is being warned to avoid drinking rainwater and milk. Here is a link to an article on Naturalnews.com, and the intro from that article:

Naturalnews.com: Europeans warned to avoid drinking milk or eating vegetables due to high radiation levels

(NaturalNews) The radiation risk from Fukushima is “no longer negligable,” says CRIIRAD, the French research authority on radioactivity. It is now warning expectant mothers and young children to avoid drinking milk or rainwater. They should also avoid certain types of vegetables and cheese due to the dangerously high levels of radiation they may contain thanks to theradioactive falloutspreading across the globe

Government Coverup?

[pen___paper.png15/4] Some folk are saying the US Government is covering up data on the true extent of the fallout from Japan over the USA and Canada. You may find the following article an interesting read. It also contains a couple of videos: Is the US Government doing a Cover Up Of Nuclear Radiation In US Drinking Water? EPA (USA) Radiation Monitoring Data [pen___paper.png15/4]

You can keep an eye on radiation levels in major US cities as reported by the EPA here: http://1.usa.gov/yQ1LUp

There are reports of radiation detected in rainfall in various locations in the USA, some as far East as Boston. Currently mainstream media is reporting the levels detected are not a public health concern.

There is a great deal of information posted here about radiation found in drinking water and in milk, in the West Coast USA.

Existing concerns about earthquakes and nuclear plant safety in Japan [pen___paper.png15/4]

What I would like to outline in this section is that I think there is good reason to NOT trust the Japanese government nor the Japanese electric power companies with regards to this nuclear disaster. Even during this disaster it is my opinion that severity of the situation was first downplayed by the owners of the Fukushima power plants. I don’t have a link on hand, but I read in news articles right immediately following the disaster that the President of Japan was finding out about the explosions from watching the news before he was told by the power company of the incident. This is not surprising considering the incredible cultural stigma in Japan around looking “bad” or being seen to have screwed up.

It is my understanding that in March 2006 a local court (Kanazawa District Court) in Japan ordered an Hokuriku Electric Power Company (Rikuden) to cease operation of two of its reactors due to risks of earthquake damage. This court order was immediately appealed through a higher court. Below is a quote from the summary of this newsfeed. See the source info on this here: http://j.mp/fOCRUb

On March 24, the Kanazawa District Court ordered the Hokuriku Electric Power Company (Rikuden) to shut down operations at Unit Two of its Shika Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) due to safety concerns over its ability to withstand powerful earthquakes.  A group of 135 plaintiffs from across the country filed the suit against Rikuden in May 2005, after the operator began trial operations, arguing that its anti-seismic design was insufficient and the advanced boiling water reactor (ABWR) design was inherently dangerous.

These plants are not the ones that have been damaged by the recent earthquakes in Japan, but this information highlights the fact that people in Japan had acted on concerns about a Fukushima type disaster back in 2006, and the the Electric company ignored this. Business as usual.

Here is another article sourced from Wikileaks showing that Japan had been warned of a possible nuclear crises due to the very real chance of earthquakes exceeding the earthquake design criteria of their nuclear power plants: http://j.mp/fM6bh0 and also here: http://j.mp/hR1khU

A quote from the article at that first link:

We are now at this stage in the life of our country and our world: WikiLeaks revealed that the Japanese Government was warned three years ago that earthquake preparedness at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant was dangerously insufficient. The IAEA was saying in 2008 that Japan’s nuclear safety guidelines were dangerously out of date. A government whistleblower in that country was quoted in a cable to Washington the same year that a Japanese ministry was “covering up nuclear accidents, and obscuring the true costs and problems associated with the nuclear industry.”

A quote from the article at that second link:

An unnamed official from the International Atomic Energy Agency is quoted in a 2008 cable from the American embassy in Tokyo as saying that a strong earthquake would pose a “serious problem” for Japan’s nuclear power stations. The official added that the country’s nuclear safety guidelines were dangerously out of date, as they had only been “revised three times in the last 35 years.”

Other important nuclear/atomic related videos [pen___paper.png29/4]

[pen___paper.png29/4] The Dangers of Nuclear War – in this video you’ll learn many vitally important facts from Helen Caldicott, a very knowledgable expert in the field, about the dangers of nuclear energy.  A few facts from this video: Nearly 1 million people have died as a result of Chernobyl. Japan is many times worse than Chernobyl. Three designers of the reactors currently affected in Japan resigned due to the unaddressed dangers of the reactors.  30 tons of highly radioactive rods are removed from the plant, stored in pools on the plant roof. Standing near one for a few minutes will kill you (massive infection, internal bleeding, etc.). These pools have been exposed. Some are dry (water has leaked out), and the pools are burning. She talks about the depleted uranium the U.S. rained down upon the Middle East. Turkish food is ALL extremely radioactive (don’t buy Turkish food products, like apricots). Plutonium -– 1 millionth of a gram if inhaled will give cancer. Hypothetically 1 lb spread evenly around the planet is enough to give entire human population cancer. Each reactor has 250 KGs of plutonium in it. Plutonium is already spreading around the northern hemisphere now, over to North America. It comes down in rain. It concentrates in food. It concentrates in the sea. You can’t taste, small, or see these radioactive elements. It takes 5 to 6 years for the cancer to develop after exposure. It is cumulative, and stays in the body.

And many more facts…

Helen Caldicott: The New Nuclear Danger – Part 1 of 4

Radiation disease – here are the symptoms and causes

[pen___paper.png15/4] (NaturalNews) What does radiation do to us? It burns the cells, kind of like burning down a house. It is well known that radiation burns our cells by creating too much free radical damage. Now of course this is like talking Greek to medical officials and professors because if they knew this they would be on the bullhorn telling the public what to do to minimize free radical damage.

You really do not want to get sick from radiation exposure and that is why the supreme rule in dealing with radiation is to avoid exposure. You want to move as far away from the danger as possible and you surely do not want to eat radioactively-contaminated foods.
